Yolanda Maria Viramontes a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend was born on December 1, 1935 and passed away peacefully on June 3, 2015 surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Mike (Sleida), Vicki (Gary), Chris (Amy) and Ed (Amy), twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico where she met her husband, Robert “Boots,” who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 55. Yoli worked for many years at the Department of Criminal Justice at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces and later at UNM’s School of Medicine in Albuquerque. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi and enjoyed close ties with her sorority sisters. Her first priority in life was her family and she was devoted to her mother Hortencia, her children and grand and great grandchildren.Yoli loved to read, shop and go to movies. She was generous with others, had a sense of style and followed the latest fashion trends. She was a devout, lifelong Catholic and worshipped for many years at Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish. A rosary and mass will be held at Our Lady of the Annunciation in Albuquerque on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 8:00 am. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens at 5140 W. Picacho Avenue on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 10:00am in Las Cruces. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to the Mosaic Church, a newly founded church led by her grandson Adam. Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo bank in an account set up in Yolanda’s name. The family thanks everyone for their outpouring of kindness and support during this difficult time. She was greatly loved, she will be missed, and we absolutely know that she is maintaining an extremely neat and tidy place in heaven.
