Ruby Carreathers

November 16, 1928 — December 30, 2020

Ruby peacefully transitioned from earth to glory at the age of 92 on December 30, 2020. She was born November 16, 1928 in Clarksville, Texas. Her family moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma when she was an infant. Ruby professed faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized and united with Jerusalem Baptist Church Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1937. She graduated from Manual Training High School June of 1949 and soon after moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. In the early 50's Ruby married Bennie M. Jackson. To this union 4 children were born. Nancy Eileen, Bennie Terrance, Jacqueline Elizabeth and Kenneth Wayne.

Ruby loved the Lord, Talking-Teaching-Helping Others-Poetry. She was an active member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, the local (NAACP) National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and in the late 60's mid 70's she was a supporter of the Black Panther movement to help educate African American communities.

Ruby worked for the New Mexico State University Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program for 20 years teaching and helping families throughout Albuquerque. She was also an active member of the New Mexico State University 4H Club teaching agricultural skills to youth.

Ruby was one of the Trail Blazing members in the National Association of Colored Women Club inc. founded in 1896. She served with the Albuquerque chapter (Eureka Matrons) for 45 years uplifting women, children and families giving scholarship grants.

Two of Ruby's favorite poems were The House by the Side of the Road and Don't Quit. She lived a full life and is preceded in death by her parents-Gus and Matilda Hopkins Carreathers, siblings-Jewel Carreathers, Harvey Carreathers, Dorothy Hill, Lonnie Carreathers, Johnnie Carreathers. She leaves to treasure her memories siblings-Barbara Williams, Shirley Baty.

Children-Nancy Eileen Jackson, Bennie Terrance Jackson, Jacqueline Elizabeth Jackson, Kenneth Wayne Jackson (Lenette) Grandchildren-Adrianna, Erika, Tyronne, Christopher, Cheriee, Victoria, Nancy, Richard, Vanessa, Terrance, Lauren - 15 Great grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family would like to give thanks to; Leanna Lopez caregiver, Alliance Hospice staffing; specifically Carol and April. The Daniels Family Funeral Services; specifically Rev. N. Darnell Smith. What you have done for us cannot be overstated.
