It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Rosalin (Roz) Cohen, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, who left us last Sunday.
Roz grew up on the East Coast in a bustling household with eight beloved siblings and parents she often described as “the very best!” Her adventurous spirit eventually brought her west alongside her husband, David Cohen. Together, they owned and managed wholesale plumbing businesses in Arizona and New Mexico. Roz’s career as a bookkeeper and business owner showcased her remarkable skill with numbers and organization.
After raising two sons, Raymond Cohen and Stephen Cohen, and retiring, Roz found joy on the dance floor. Known for her impeccable style, she loved crafting the perfect outfit and shared countless nights dancing with friends. After David’s passing, she found companionship with Ralph Dugan, and the two spent nearly two decades traveling and dancing their way across the United States. Following Ralph’s passing, she met Leonard Fechter, her special friend and dance partner of the last 15 years.
Being a grandmother brought Roz immense joy. She adored her granddaughters, Suzi Cohen and Nicole Cohen, playing with them in their younger years and later offering wisdom on life’s important topics, like relationships. She treasured late-night calls and exchanging letters with them, relishing her role as their trusted confidante.
Roz is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Cathy Cohen; her granddaughters, Suzi Cohen and Nicole Cohen; her great-grandson, Zane Cohen; and two siblings, Allen (& Libby) Weingarten and Naomi Remer. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Cohen; her son, Stephen Cohen; six of her Weingarten siblings; her sister-in-law, Carol (& Herb) Feifer; and her long-time companion, Ralph Dugan. She also leaves behind a large extended family, including nieces and nephews who adored “Aunt Roz” for her love, guidance, and thoughtfulness. She cherished the Good family grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well.
Roz’s memory lives on through her kindness, wisdom, and one of her favorite quotes: “It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.”
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a favorite charity or one of Roz’s cherished organizations, including the Disabled American Vets (DAV), Hearing Loss Association of Albuquerque, Keren Or Shrine Hospital, Hadassah, and Tunnel 2 Towers.
