Romey M. Chaves, 86, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2016 after several years of declining health. She was born on October 11, 1929, to Frank and Adela Maldonado of Estancia, NM. In 1950, she married Herman Chaves from Magdalena, NM.
Romey was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was light hearted and always encouraging. Her stories would make you laugh. She was always happy to share and would generously give anything she could. She enjoyed playing the slots at the casino and would often share her winnings. She truly lived for her grand and great grand-children and looked forward to every visit.
She is preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Max and Pete Maldonado. She is survived by her sister, Juanita Sanchez and husband, Eddie; her half-sister, Mary Garcia-Sanchez; sons, James Chaves and wife, Virginia, and Walter Chaves and wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Mario and wife, Mary, Gian and wife, Diana, Christopher, and wife, Sara, Amanda, Jason and Alyssa; and great-grandchildren, Giana, Aliyah, Dominic, Leonidas, Noah, Antonio, Myriah, Izaiah, Deven, and Santiago.
A Rosary will be on Tuesday, March, 8, 2016 at 7:00 PM at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE. The Mass service will be on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 9:00 AM at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande, located at 5901 St. Josephs Ave NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120, followed by interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
