With heavy hearts and joyous memories, we celebrate the life of Rita O. Sargent, who passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024. Born on May 22, 1939, in historic Tucumcari, New Mexico, Rita embraced life with a spirit that brightened every room she entered.
A proud Albuquerque High School graduate, she fulfilled her passion of caring for others by earning her nursing degree at St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Santa Fe. Rita dedicated herself to her vocation, making a difference in the lives of countless patients and families throughout her career. Her compassion and love comforted many, especially her children, whom she adored.
Her devoted children survive her, Russell Milligan, Tammy LaFrance, and Kimberly Summers; daughter-n-laws, Cynthia Estrada; son-n-laws, Calvin Yates and Todd Fuja; and grandchildren, Kyle, Kodie LaFrance, Kansas Murchio, Savannah Saulnier, Austin Milligan, Phoenix Milligan, Boston Milligan, Elijah Chavez; and great-grandchildren, Madison Gregory, Kinsley Lopez, Henry Murchio, Hudson Murchio, Wesley LaFrance. They will carry on her legacy of perseverance, discipline, resilience, and the value of cherishing each moment, ensuring that her spirit lives on in their actions, the love they spread, and the memories they create together as a family.
Rita was known for her infectious laughter and unwavering spirit. She found joy in every moment, whether spending time with her children, hanging out at Sadie’s Restaurant, driving down Route 66, or spending time in her backyard, where she cherished life’s simple pleasures like reading, praying, and appreciating the beauty of a sunrise and sunset. In essence, Rita’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven from love, laughter, and an appreciation for the simple joys surrounding her, leaving a lasting impact on what she knew.
In honoring Rita’s memory, let us remember the beautiful moments, cherish our families, and spread joy just as she did. We will celebrate her life with family and friends, allowing us to share memories and love in true Rita fashion—filled with smiles, laughter, and togetherness. Her remembrance service will be held at Strong Thorne Funeral Home on December 13, 2024, from 11 a.m. to noon. A reception will follow the service at Strong Thorne.
Instead of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider making donations to http://fundraising.stjude.org/goto/debbiememorialfund in loving memory of her daughter, Deborah Milligan, who passed away from leukemia in 1961. Supporting this fund would honor both her and Deborah's legacy.
Rest in peace, dear Rita, our mother and friend. You will forever remain in our hearts.
