Richard was a great all-around athlete, excelling in basketball at Albuquerque High and earning the award of Albuquerque Player of the Year in 1973 – his junior year! He attended and excelled in basketball at colleges in New Mexico, Kansas and Texas.
In his professional life, Richard pursued a career as a long-distance truck driver, travelling the open roads and experiencing the freedom of the open skies. He was dedicated to his work and took pride in his role. He was known as the “butcher” chop, chop. Additionally, Richard had a passion for horseshoes, spending his leisure time perfecting his skills in the game and watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

Jenkins “sis” and “favorite” nephew Ernest Jenkins Jr. Richard held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, Jenaya, Devyn and Jyzel Lopez.
A very special thank you to Ron Estrada who went above and beyond in helping Richard in his latter days.
