Albuquerque, NM – Princess K. Coleman-Walker, 66, transitioned on December 26, 2025, after a two-year battle with stomach cancer (GIST). She was born in Hamilton, Bermuda on October 14, 1958, to the late Rev. Rudolph W. Coleman and Cecile Mae (Bryant) Coleman.
After moving stateside, Princess was raised in Dover, Delaware and graduated from Dover High School in 1976. She received her spiritual knowledge and accepted Christ at Mt. Zion AME Church in Dover where her father was the pastor. After leaving Dover, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice in 1980 from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia. She continued her education at George Washington University in Washington DC and graduated in 1982 with her master’s degree in criminal justice and political science.
Princess arrived in Albuquerque in 1983 for what she thought would be a brief stay to assist her late grandmother, Princess Bryant, recover from hip surgery. Unbeknownst to her, this began her love affair with the southwestern lifestyle. She began her career with Hogares, Inc. from 1984 until their closing. During this time, she also received her LPC License which allowed her to render clinical professional counseling services. In September 2013, Princess continued her career at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico as a Behavior Health Care Coordinator.
Despite her time-consuming professional career, Princess maintained her commitment to community and civic involvement though her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. in which she achieved the status of Life Member, the NAACP, the Sickle Cell Foundation of New Mexico, The New Mexico United Way Campaign, and was a proud board member of the New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, Inc. (NMCSAP) Throughout her years in Albuquerque, Princess remained faith to her God and her church via Grant Chapel AME Church and Antioch Baptist Church after her union to the pastor, Rev. David Walker.
Princess was the recipient of several awards and recognitions which include: The City of Albuquerque, Martin Luther King, Jr. - Keep the Dream Alive Award, The Martin Luther King, Jr. - Freedom Award, and Outstanding Young Women In America.
She is preceded in death by her father, the late Rudolph Wesley Coleman, Geneva Coleman of Chicago, Howard and Mildred Cockrell of Denver. She leaves behind to mourn her death and celebrate her life: her faithful husband, Rev. David E. Walker; two daughters - Wesley “Wes” Coleman and Asha Coleman-Wilson of Las Cruces, NM; Cecile M. Coleman-Mother (Abq); Cheryl M. Coleman - Sister (Abq) ; Rev. David C. Coleman, Jr. - Uncle (Chicago); Cousins -David Coleman III, Linda Coleman-Willams, and Mark Coleman (Chicago) ; John Cockrell (Arleta) (Denver) and Paul Cockrell (Erma)( Abq); all of her Walker Family in laws, and Antioch church family. Lifelong friends - Andy Najar, Carol Bickelman and Sharon Huerta as well as many other friends and associates too numerous to name.
Her memorial service will be on January 25, 2025, at Shiloh Baptist Church – 608 Avenida Caesar Chavez at 11:00 am. The service will be streamed live at shilohmbcabq on Facebook. (Ivy Beyond The Wall Service at 10:00 am)
