Melvin Robinson, Sr., age 54, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born on March 28, 1970, to Walter and Ruthie Mae Robinson. Melvin was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and was a 1989 graduate of Vashon High School. On a basketball scholarship, Melvin attended St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri and later transferred to Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. After four years of college, Melvin pursued an extensive career in the NBA and International Basketball Leagues. Upon his retirement from basketball, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and began his career in Security. Melvin pursued business ventures which included Big Chill’s BBQ & More, M&R Security, LLC, and others. Melvin was well known by his friends as Big Chill and a gentle giant.
Preceded in death were his parents, Walter and Ruthie Mae Robinson, and his brothers Fred Lee Robinson and Billy Booker, and nephew LeJuan Hayes-Robinson Sr. He is survived by his three children, Damion Smith-Robinson, Melvin Jacob Robinson, Jr., and Enzo Walter Robinson; step son Jeremy Tom, five brothers George Bernard Robinson (Laquita), Aster Duckworth (Sonya), Larry Robinson (Tina), Eugene Robinson, and Walter Robinson (Denita); two sisters, Cynthia Robinson and Terri Davidson (Danny) additionally, Melvin leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
