Mayo R. Ulibarri
Born January 21, 1924
Passed away peacefully on July 11st, 2021 Sunday evening at the age of 97.
He was born in Mogollon, New Mexico near Reserve, N.M. in Catron County where he was raised among 15 children from parents Delfino Ulibarri and Prajedes Romero.
At age 18 he joined the CCC camps created by president F.D.R.
Later he joined the Navy and fought in the Pacific making him a WWII veteran. He was also in the army in occupied Germany.
He later met, who was later to be his wife, Jean while living and working in Washington State.
Mayo and Jean met in an unusual manner in the same apartment building. Mayo was trying to teach himself the violin. Jean, already a knowledgeable violinist, heard Mayo and knocked on his door. That is how they met and fell in love with one another.
They later married having four children together, Ramon, Debra, Philemon, and Stephen.
Mayo later moved back to New Mexico to care for his mother, known by many as "Grandma Prajedes".
Among the many things he loved doing was gardening, camping, fishing, hunting, playing guitar, taking walks, going to church, and taking care of the family pets.
He is survived by one sister, Dolores, his grandson and daughter-in-law, Devin and Laura, great-grandson, Kai, and his son, Stephen, as well as all the friends and family that loved and cared for him.
As a father, grandfather, and friend, he will be missed by many.
God bless you, Mayo.
