It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Louise Woods, Hood, Sanders. She was born on March 27, 1930 to Criselda Clark Woods and (Buffalo Solider) Deland Woods. She was the second eldest of the 5 member Woods clan, and the second eldest of 10 children born to Criselda.
At the age of 10, she recalls helping with the bandage changes of her father Deland while he was a patient at Fort Bayard. Upon his passing, it was at that time she decided she wanted to become a nurse.
In 1964 she was one of the first graduating nursing class of Presbyterian Hospital. She would go on to devote more than 40 years to caring for others.
One of her first jobs as a nurse was at St. Joseph’s Hospital, from which she retired. She would not stop there she continued to work at various nursing homes throughout the city, and occasional private duty nursing.
When she “finally” retired she enjoyed working on puzzles, knitting, crocheting and crosswords puzzles. Her favorite pastime was “Bingo” she was so lucky and won numerous Jackpots!
Early on Sunday morning, September 1, 2024, she hit the Jackpot of her lifetime. She was ushered into eternal rest by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Rest well mom you deserve this time you did your best; you did “Great” Thank you!! She was predeceased by her parents, husband John B. Sanders, aunt Mary and Uncle Pat, 4 of her 8 children, all but one of her siblings and two grandsons.
Left to celebrate her life is her sister, our special and loving aunt Ethel Perry (Sam), her children, Cheryl Williams, Leroy Hood, Cynthia Hood, Sederick Hood and son-In–law, Harry Kane (Valerie), 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren.
