Mary Lou Darras passed peacefully on January 19, 2021 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 89.
Mary is survived by her children; Henry Darras of Albuquerque, Lou Ann Darras of Albuquerque (Anne), Martin Darras of Albuquerque (Anne), Lisa Darras of Albuquerque, Reba Blackwell of Albuquerque (David), Rita Darras of Denver, CO, Sandra Franks of Madras, OR (Adam) and Teresa Nunnery of Houston, TX (Jonathan); grand-children, Adrienne, Roxy, Vanessa, Aaron, Amanda, Jacob, Keith, Kelly and Shannon; as well as seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers; David Church of Albuquerque, and Ernesto Iglesias of California as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son David Darras.
Mary was born on October 12, 1931 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated from Albuquerque High School. Mary lived in several other cities on military bases in her early adulthood, and eventually returned to Albuquerque for the remainder of her life. She was an Educational Assistant and retired from Albuquerque Public Schools after many years of working with children with disabilities. Mary was an active and dedicated member of St. Charles Borromeo church and spent many years serving her community. She was passionate about family and close friends and was a joy to all who knew her.
A funeral is scheduled for February 20, 2021 at 11:00AM at Daniel’s Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106. Due to COVID restrictions, attendance is limited to family, however, there will be a live stream of the services available. The family would like to thank the staff of South Valley Care Center for their love and dedication to Mary. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the South Valley Care Center in Albuquerque, or to any charity of your choice.
