Martha Coleman Baum died peacefully in her sleep at her home on August 7, 2021. She was 84 years old.
She was born in Oneida, New York to Earl and Helen Coleman on December 23, 1936. After graduating from Chittenango High School, she worked as a secretary for Nationwide Insurance and Syracuse University. It was at Syracuse University where she met her husband, Dr. Neal Patrick Baum. Martha and Neal moved to Albuquerque in 1971 where they had two sons and remained married until Neal’s death in 2003.
Martha was beloved by her family and her many friends at St. Charles Borromeo Church. She worked as secretary at St. Charles school for a time, and volunteered at the church for many years. She was adored as a mother and mother-in-law, but found her greatest joy near the end of her life as a grandmother to five grandchildren.
She was a skilled knitter and baker. She enjoyed reading fiction, watching sports, and listening to music. But more than anything else she will be remembered for her kindness to her friends and her love for her family. She is survived by sisters Jeannette Bush, Lois Dahlberg, Edna Mirizio, brother Burton Coleman, brother-in-law Keith Dahlberg, sons George and Spencer Baum, daughters-in-law Miranda and Julie Baum, and grandchildren Kira, Neal, Rowan, Connor, and Cora Baum.
A funeral service is scheduled for 9:45 am on Tuesday August 17, 2021 at St. Charles Borromeo Church on 1818 Coal SE in Albuquerque with a graveside service to follow.
