Johnson, Margaret
Margaret (Peggy) Helen Johnson, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Albuquerque, NM on the morning of January 2nd, 2022. Born on August 3rd, 1941 in Hot Springs, SD, Peggy grew up in Bismarck, ND and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1959. She attended the University of North Dakota, receiving an associates degree in Speech and Home Economics. Peggy then moved to New York City to attend the (all girls) Tobe'-Coburn School for Fashion Careers and graduated in 1962 with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Promotion. She briefly worked for Seventeen Magazine in the Press Dept and as a hand model while in NYC. Peggy then drove across country, with all her worldly belongings stuffed in her Morris Mini car, to start her career in Los Angeles, CA. It was there that she met her first husband, Rudy Beres. They married in Minnesota and honeymooned in Aspen, CO in 1963. Rudy’s career kept them in Denver, CO, where they went on to have two daughters. The family moved to Honolulu, HI for a couple of years and then to Miami, FL, where Peggy’s daughters grew up. Peggy had an exceptionally productive and adventurous life - living in various cities in FL for the next 50+ years. She worked as a very successful realtor and also in sales for a variety of housing development companies. Peggy then spent many years working in sales for Pitney Bowes Corporation, rising all the way up to a Major Account Executive before she retired in 2000. After becoming bored with retirement, Peggy "earned her wings” as a certified Flight Attendant for ComAir (Delta Airlines) at the age of 61 and enjoyed four years of service, with the added benefit of flying for free in her off time and sharing that with family & friends. She eventually retired again to Hobe Sound, FL for several years before relocating to Albuquerque, NM (near her oldest daughter).
Peggy is survived by her two daughters, Anne (Joel) Zupfer and Eva (Mark) Kaminski; and by her five grandchildren: Grace (Andrew) Bouvier, Erin (Kaitlyn Sparta) Kaminski, Noah Zupfer, Mary Kaminski, and Hope Zupfer. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce Johnson & Charliene Johnson, and by her sister, Nancy Kay (Curt) Thorpe.
Most everyone who knew her, including her dear departed Aunt Ramona (Mona) Tariot, would heartily agree that Peggy was one of a kind - a vibrant bright light, friendly, generous, fun, and nearly indestructible. She lived her life to the absolute fullest, squeezing nearly every bit out of it. Peggy will be fondly remembered and cherished by those who knew her best. At Peggy’s request, there will be no in-person funeral or memorial service. In the near future, her daughters will arrange an online group meet-up where family and friends can share memories.
