Mamie A. Teague

Mamie A. Gaffney Teague was born to L.B. Gaffney and Winifred Polk Gaffney on December 12^th, 1937, in Clarksville Texas. After a sudden bout with pneumonia, she departed this life on November 28^th, 2023, surrounded by family and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a younger brother, Cecil S. Gaffney who just recently passed. She was also preceded in death by her husband Rev. Dr. David B. Teague.

Mamie moved to Hobbs, New Mexico early in life and then relocated to Albuquerque in the early 60’s where she resided until her transition. Mamie’s education consisted of High School, then she went on to earn her Cosmetologist License, and became one of the first licensed hair weave practitioners in the U.S. after attending school in Boston, MA. And Long Island, NY.

Mamie opened Teague’s Beauty Salon in 1981, and owned and operated her cosmetology business for over 40 years.

She leaves to mourn her passing one son, Davin B. Teague; one sister, Rosie L. Bradley; 4 Grandchildren, Yawanaya Teague, Ayanna Teague, Amarna Mortensen, and Talon Teague; 5 stepchildren; and many more loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
