Mae Rita Roth, 89, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017. She was born on November 29, 1927 in Marksville, LA to Henry and Nora (Bordelon) Châtelain. Mae was a graduate of Marksville High School where she lettered in softball and basketball. After graduation, she moved to New Orleans where she was an operator for Bell Telephone and private secretary for Dumas Chevrolet. Mae was a beauty queen and professional model for many years. She later moved to Pittsburgh, PA where she met the love of her life Dr. Lester Roth. She was the office manager of his three offices; as well as, owning her own candy store. Then in 1998 they retired to Albuquerque, where she could be close to her daughters and grandkids.
Mae was always talented with her hands; sewing, needlepointing, beading, ceramics, and decorating for every holiday. She was an avid gardener until the very end and was crazy about dogs, cats and babies.
Mae was preceded in death by her first husband James Newkirk; her husband Dr. Lester Hugh Roth; parents Henry and Nora Chatelain: siblings, Foster Chatelain (Lovenia), Lee Chatelain (Errol), and Hazel Armand (Dennis). She is survived by her children, Christine "Krys" Custer (Philip), Miki Roth-Mahan (Dave) from Albuquerque; Hugh Roth (Amy) from Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Sasha Custer, Nicole Custer (Morgan Royce), Brittany Roth and Katelyn Roth; great-grandchildren, Lauren Custer, Ruby Custer, and Kindell Custer; nephew, Kenneth Armand; and her loving caregivers and staff at Casa del Reina. Many thanks to the support and loving care of Hospice New Mexico.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 13 at Strong-Thorne, 1100 Coal Ave SE, Albuquerque.
