Askew, Ladozia Minter
On the morning of October 10, 2014, surrounded in love, Ladozia Minter Askew, a long time resident of Albuquerque, NM peacefully passed away. Born in Wetumka, Oklahoma, the Minter family later moved to New Mexico in the late 1950's. Ladozia would graduate from Albuquerque High in 1964, and continue her education at the University of New Mexico where she earned a Bachelors in Education. Her first teaching assignment was at East San Jose Elementary, and while there she completed her Masters in Special Education. She would take her second teaching assignment at Sandia Base Elementary, where she would retire in 2003. After a year of retirement, she had a strong desire to return to the classroom, and she began teaching at Hayes Middle School. Ms. Askew would retire from Hayes in August 2013, for a completion of 46 years with the Albuquerque Public School system. Traveling, meeting people, and enjoying life kept Ladozia active. She was a member of Home Circle Club as well as a faithful member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as an usher. Her love for sports showed, as she could be spotted at many Lobo games. As well as her love for music, as she could be found at numerous concerts. She was known by many young people, whom she loved and opened the doors of her home for, as "Momma L.A." In return she would often affectionately refer to them as her "collectible children". She is survived by her daughter Stanis Krystine Askew; sister, Coreaetta Hancock-Walpool (Nathaniel); sister-in-law, Elizabeth Minter; nephews, Rosel A. Minter (Tony), wife Keri; Aaron Dixon (Bucky), wife Kerry; Ian W. Minter (Duffy); Rozel V. With the life lessons she taught, the conversations she had, the embracing hugs she gave, and the loud laughter she shared Ladozia Minter Askew will be sorely missed and will remain in our hearts forever.
