Jesse Lee Spicer

Jesse Lee Spicer (aka Unk and Uncle Lee) was born in Twiggs County, Georgia, on September 3, 1946, to Della Lucille Spicer, father unknown, step-father Glen Thomas Spicer. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1955 where he attended John Marshall Elementary, Lincoln Jr. High, and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1965.

In 1966, Jesse was drafted into the US Army where he served one year of his duty in Viet-Nam. After his honorable discharge as a Specialist 4 in 1968, he moved to California and worked for Western Electric Company. He was laid off in 1983 and moved back to Albuquerque. He worked at the Albuquerque International Sunport as a skycap and eventually started a successful turkey leg business known as Old Smokey.

Jesse had a very generous heart and spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to help people spending hours observing the less fortunate. One day he had an idea and proceeded to single handedly build a model of a water well down in the International District of Albuquerque where he filled it with ice and bottled water every day for all to partake of during the summer months. After that became too laborious, he literally went to the Sandia Mountain top to commune with his Lord to get a clear picture of his next vision—the Highway to Heaven John 14:6 T-shirt. Jesse designed and purchased hundreds of them giving them away at every opportunity, his way of spreading the gospel’s Good News.

Jesse was married to Linda Mae Greathouse Spicer in 1966 (deceased); Barbara Jean Burks Spicer (deceased) in 1989, and Yvonne Hearn Mangrum-Spicer in 2014. He is preceded in death by his mother and step-father; five sisters, Betty Ann Spicer, Liz Redmond, Carolyn Taylor, Annie Shaw, and Katherine Spicer-Morgan; and three brothers, Billy Johnson, Glen Thomas Spicer, Jr., and Michael Samuel Spicer.

Jesse leaves behind his beloved wife, Yvonne; two loving daughters, Rachael Lynn Greathouse Johnson (Rod) and Saunja Denise Gaines (Clyde) of San Diego; one brother Leroy Spicer (Vikki); nine stepsons, Jesse Spicer, Jr., Vincent Spicer, Stephen Spicer, and Talford Spicer; from his wife Barbara whom he raised as his own, Dan Curtis Beal (deceased), Marcel Yelder of Arkansas, and Amin Ansari of Ohio; and Raoul Keith and Damon Kyle Mangrum of Detroit; and many, many, many nieces, grand nieces, nephews and great nephews. Jesse also leaves a host of friends. He loved them all!!!

Jesse was more than ready to get to his Lord and Savior, and he talked about it all the time. If you could see his face, you wouldn’t shed a tear.
