Javier Martinez-Lara

Javier Martínez Lara, 68, transitioned peacefully on the morning of April 3, 2025. He was surrounded by his family and friends, held in love until his final breath.

Javier was born on October 30, 1956 in Cd. Juárez, México. He migrated to the U.S. at 18 and built a successful career as a drywall taper/laborer, becoming one of hundreds of workers who helped shape the housing developments across the Southwest. In 1989, he moved his wife and children to Albuquerque, where he continued building both homes and community.

After losing his construction job in the wake of the 2008 recession, Javier reinvented himself with quiet determination—taking on work as a janitor, a job he held with humility and dignity until his departure from this world.

Javier leaves behind a legacy of hard work, unmatched work ethic, and unwavering integrity. He believed deeply in respect for the rule of law, compassion for those in need, and above all, love—love for his family, his roots, and the community he helped build.

Javier was preceded in death by his parents Benito Martínez Ceniceros and Soledad Lara de Martínez. He is survived by his wife Ana Luisa Martínez; his daughter Viridiana Martínez; his son, Speaker of the House Javier Martínez, and daughter-in-law Diana V. Martínez; and his grandchildren Daryana, Marisela, Camilo, Dariela, and Darissa, who were the pride and joy of his life. The first among his siblings to leave this world, Javier’s absence is felt deeply by the brothers and sisters who grew up beside him, shaped by the same roots of resilience and love.

“Tito,” as he was affectionately called, loved unconditionally and embodied the quiet strength of generations. He lived with purpose and humility, and in doing so, achieved the American Dream—on his own terms. He was a proud immigrant, and that pride lives on in the values he instilled in his children and grandchildren, whose lives and leadership continue to shape their communities and beyond.

Javier Martínez Lara, 68, murió con su familia y amigos a su lado la mañana del 3 de abril del 2025. Ellos estuvieron con él hasta su último suspiro.

Javier nació un 30 de octubre de 1956 en Cd. Juárez, Chihuahua. El emigro a las EE.UU.A la edad de 18 años e hizo una carrera exitosa como “teipero” en la construcción. El fue uno de miles de trabajadores migrantes quienes construyeron miles de viviendas alrededor del suroeste de los Estados Unidos. En 1989 el mudo a su familia a Albuquerque, ciudad en cual el siguió construyendo casas, y a la vez una familia y una comunidad de raza fuerte.

Después de la recesión económica del 2008 el perdió su trabajo en la industria de la construcción pero el siguio adelante como conserje, un trabajo a través del cual Javier se reinventó con honor y con mucha dignidad. El ejerció como conserje hasta su partida de este mundo, cuidando de edificios en los cuales se hacían labores muy importantes como el de CHI St. Joseph’s Children, el Environmental Law Center, y el Partnership for Community Action. Javier fue parte de un cambio revolucionario en Nuevo México.

Javier deja un legado de ética, amor al trabajo, y una integridad incorruptible. El siempre creyó en el orden, la compasión, y el amor por su familia, sus raíces, y la comunidad a la cual él ayudó a construir con sus propias manos.

A Javier se le adelantaron sus padres Don Benito Martínez Ceniceros y Dona Soledad Lara de Martínez. A el lo sobreviven su amada esposa de 44 años Ana Luisa Martínez; su hija Viridiana Martínez; su hijo, el Presidente de la Cámara de Diputados del Estado de Nuevo México Javier Martínez, su hija política Diana V. Martínez; y sus niet@s Daryana, Marisela, Camilo, Dariela, y Darissa, quienes fueron su mayor orgullo.

El fue el primer de sus herman@s en partir, y le dedica un fuerte y amoroso abrazo a su inseparable “Memo,” su hermano menor Hector “Pelón” Martínez. Le debe una cerveza.

“Tito,” como le llamaban sus nieto@s, amó incondicionalmente, y fue ejemplo de la fuerza y espíritu de nuestros antepasados. El vivió una vida con propósito y humildad y logró el “sueno americano” - a su manera.

Él fue un migrante con orgullo y con dignidad. Sus hij@s y niet@s continuarán su legado.
