Harold R. "Sonny" Payton, 71, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. He was born on June 25, 1944 to Thurman and Nannie (Hearn) Payton. He proudly served in the US Navy. A devout Jehovah's Witness, he will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues. He was a Regional Manager Trainer for Giant Industries. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially doting on his grandchildren, as well as fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Joann Payton. Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Bettye (Miller) Payton, of Albuquerque, NM; children, Robbie Wakefield of Frisco, TX, Eric D. Payton and wife, Latoya, of Forney, TX, and Brian D. Payton of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Stephanie Wakefield, Joshua Wakefield, Eric D. Payton, Jr., Saniya Payton, Jordan Payton, and Ella Payton; great-grandchildren, Elias and Caleb Wakefield; sisters, Juanita Payton and Wanda Wardlow; aunt, Mattie Cole; godsons, Brett Bell and Troy Bell; and many nieces and nephews. Viewing and Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Strong-Thorne Chapel, 1100 Coal Ave SE, Albuquerque. The Funeral Service will be held with Military Honors at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 16, 2015, also at Strong-Thorne Chapel.
