Georgia Mae Coats, age sixty-five (65), born May 28, 1953, to the late Mr. George Ellis and Mrs. Fannie Mae Williams in Kansas City, Missouri, one of four children. She departed this life at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 1328. She is preceded in death by both parents: George Ellis, Fannie Mae Williams and her step father Mr. M.A. Williams.
Georgia Coats graduated from West Mesa High School in May 1971 and later attended community college in Oakland California. Shortly after she completed school in California, she returned with her husband to Albuquerque in 1974. Before her passing she worked at Home Instead Senior Care and was always dedicated to providing care to the elderly.
On the 3rd of April 1973, she married her sweetheart of 46 years, David Coats, and to this union they were blessed with one son, Christopher Coats. She was not only a wonderful mother, but she was a daughter, sister, auntie, friend, cook, and a great quilt maker. Her quilts were selected and displayed on the internet.
She became a Christian at an early age and joined the Antioch Baptist Church where she was baptized by the late Dr. James A. Hopkins. She later joined Pilgrim Church of God in Christ where she served for many years under the leadership of Rev. Dan Everage. She loved to sing and she was very active in her Church. She directed the choir and served wherever she was needed. She trusted in the Lord and never wavered in her faith. She loved her family and enjoyed spending holidays and dinners with them. She and her sisters were very close and talked every day. During the time of her illness, her family never left her side. She loved cooking and celebrating dinners with her family. She will be missed by her family and friends for many years to come, but her spirit will live within each and every person whose lives she touched with her selfless giving, compassion and strong faith and spirit. She fought a good fight, she finished the course, and she kept the faith, and she has now received her crown.
The family would like to thank the nurses and hospice doctors at St. Luke’s Homecare/Hospice in Kansas City, Missouri for their compassion, love, and care. The family would also like to give a special thank you to their Aunt Mary Gladys, Aunt Minnie and Aunt Verdie, cousins, Rev. N.D. Smith, Rev. Donald Twitty, Sr. and the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.
