Bobbie Verselle Jones, 85, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on March 21, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born to Samuel and Helen Jones on May 3, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he was raised with his two brothers, Sam and Henderson. He spent his formative years in New Orleans before pursuing a business degree at Tuskegee University.
Driven by a passion for public service, Bobbie embarked on a fulfilling career with the US Forest Service and the City of Albuquerque, laying the foundation for a lifetime dedicated to making a difference in his community.
Bobbie's devotion extended beyond his professional life; his children were his pride and joy. He poured his heart into supporting them every step of the way, leaving an indelible mark on their lives with his boundless love and generosity.
However, Bobbie's greatest joy came from his role as "Papa" to his ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Their presence brought him immeasurable happiness, and he cherished every moment spent spoiling them and cheering them on in their endeavors.
An avid sports enthusiast, Bobbie had a deep passion for football and basketball, particularly his beloved New Orleans Saints. In 2010 his dream of watching the Saints win a Superbowl came true when they beat the Indianapolis Colts, 31-17. His larger-than-life personality, infectious laugh, and sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him.
Bobbie is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, and his children: Dino Jones and his wife Diana, Charles Jones, Tatia Jones, and Jason Jones and his wife April, sister-in-law Marion Lyons husband Thomas Lyons and Julia Morrison. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Justin Jones and his wife Iris, Justin Montoya and Wahleah Paisano, Tyrell Jones and his wife Ashley, Chantelle Rey-Smith and Deshawn Mills, Shanessa Jones, Jacob Jones, Tabitha Mansfield and Kareem Garrett, Javohn Jones, Jerzie Jones, and Javion Jones; as well as his great-grandchildren: Ally, Jett, Titus, Quintin, Sebastian, Xavier, Xachary, Karter, Sanai, Amare, Darryn, Drew, and Kyree.
In addition to his immediate family, Bobbie is also survived by his godson, Aaron Santos, numerous friends including Ron Santos and Ron Wallace and many extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Helen Jones, his brothers, Samuel Robert Jones, Jr. and Henderson Jones, daughter in law Annette K. Jones and his grandson, Perris Rey-Smith.
Bobbie Verselle Jones will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the love, warmth, and compassion he shared with all who crossed his path. His memory will continue to inspire and uplift us, serving as a testament to the extraordinary man he was.
