Anthony Valdez Galaz

Anthony V. Galaz, age 91, passed away peacefully in Albuquerque, New Mexico on February 21, 2025. He was preceded in death by his mother Matilde Galaz, father Gorgonio Galaz, and siblings Gustavo Galaz and Gloria Trujillo. Anthony was born in Belen, New Mexico where he taught government and coached football and baseball. Prior to coaching and teaching, Anthony served proudly in the United States Army where he worked in the government’s Nike missile program during the cold war. Anthony also worked as a counselor with the Albuquerque Public Schools and an administrator at Central New Mexico College (formerly Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute) until his retirement in 1988. 

 Anthony is survived by his son Anthony John Galaz, daughter-in-law Violet Galaz, their grandchildren Emma Lu and Jude, his wife of 53 years Lu Ellen Galaz her daughter Cindy and partner Charisse. Anthony was an avid Notre Dame football and New York Yankee fan and devout Roman Catholic. Special thanks to the medical staff at the New Mexico Cancer Center who cared for him since 2017 and his caretaker Mary who assisted him in the last year of his life.
